This eighth edition looks at August and more specifically at how operators focused on payments can provide the best experience, the threats faced by betting businesses, the next step for US sports betting and the need for scouts in stadiums.EPG: Why working with exemptions could offset SCA setbacksBusinesses operating in a “tricky industry such as gaming” could see conversion rates significantly drop once Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) is enforced next month, but it is not all doom and gloom writes Christian Diegelmann, CEO of Euro Payment Group (EPG) in Frankfurt and Malta. Here, he provides a quick rundown of the revised Payment Services Directive (PSD2) and associated SCA measures, before explaining why the successful handling of Regulatory Technical Standards (RTS) exemptions will become a key component for an operator focused on providing the best payments experience for its customers. The revised PSD2 was published in November 2015, entered into force on 13 January 2016 and applied since 13 January 2018. The Directive brought fundamental changes to the payments market in the EU, in particular by requiring SCA to be applied by payment service providers (PSPs) when carrying out remote electronic transactions. In its fulfilment of PSD2, Article 98(1) mandated the European Banking Authority (EBA) to develop RTS for SCA, which were published on 13 March 2018 and will apply as of 14 September 2019.Read MoreBe there or be square: 3 key threats to your betting businessThe future is not now. There are so many factors that influence the success of a betting website. So how can you plan ahead?Jakub Myszkorowski, Chief Commercial Officer at STATSCORE, takes us through three main threats that should not be left ‘uncared’ for, before highlighting a couple of solutions to keep you in the game. How big is the online betting market? Well, let’s just say that the UK is believed to have an active betting group of over 20 million players. Quite a lot, you could say. But now take into account that not all of them will choose online gambling as their first choice. Some are the traditional old folks who prefer to go to the betting shops for the human touch or – for a more modern day punter – play on the Self-Service Betting Terminals (SSBTs).Read MoreMartin Lycka: Supreme Court’s (sports betting) punt return and beyondIt is 14 May 14 2018, which may be the US football offseason, yet the sights of the whole gambling industry are on a nine-bodied punt returner called the Supreme Court of the United States of America. Will the most honourable punt returner catch the ball thumped many moons ago by the 1992 Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act’s punter? The ball has been hanging in the air for what feels like a lifetime (well, 26 years to be precise) and then the ball is caught, and the punt returner is off. The first few gunners are left in the dust of the Capitol Hill pitch; but the long uphill return is stopped just yards short of the Capitol building (firmly in the state by state regulation territory). The first play has been successful but many more are yet to come.14 May 2018 is the day when the modern area of US sports betting regulation was born. Since then ten US states have regulated and launched their sports betting markets – the Trailblazing Ten are Nevada (“grandfathered” into the new regulatory world), New Jersey, Delaware, West Virginia, Mississippi, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Arkansas and New York.Read MoreLive or latent? Why scouts need to be in the stadiumsData from live scouts is the fuel that powers the sports betting business says Jakub Myszkorowski, Chief Commercial Officer at STATSCORE. Yet, while different levels of latency might have been accepted in years gone by, the need for the fastest and most reliable data – particularly to meet the demand for in-play wagering – means that all live scouts need to be moved to the stadiums. What does live scouting mean? Basically, it is gathering incidents from the events as they happen and tagging them properly. For some of the incidents it is clear and obvious – eg. a goal scored would be normally counted and tagged the same way by everyone who follows the game. But the more detailed you want to get, the more interpretational problems you face. Let’s take passing in football as an example. We can divide passes by their aim – they can go forward, backwards and sideways. So far, no complaints or differences. Besides some anomalies, we can also agree upon their trajectory. Yet, when it comes to dividing passes by length, the crazy game starts. Read More StumbleUpon

Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan believes that head coach of the side, Kwesi Appiah did not have him in his plans for the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.Gyan, who came off the bench against Cameroon and Tunisia, believes that this might have accounted for the lack of minutes at the competition. He said he accepted the coach’s decision not to start him but suggested that not using him off the bench a lot more was unfortunate.“I feel I wasn’t in Kwesi Appiah’s plans for the AFCON. With my 17 years of experience, I could tell.“If I’m not a starter, I accept it, that’s the coach’s decision but at least…,” he told Accra-based station, Joy FM, tailing off at the end.Gyan did not play in the Black Stars group opener against Benin but came off the bench in the 76th minute against Cameroon in the next game.He then remained on the bench for the game against Guinea Bissau, a match the Stars won 2-0.Against Tunisia in the Round of 16, Gyan came on in the 84th minute, with Ghana down by a goal and played a role in the own goal scored by the North Africans. He then played the full duration of extra time but did not take a penalty in the shootout as Ghana went out.The player is convinced that he could have made a big difference to the Stars’ performance at the tournament had he been a regular in the team.He feels that he was unable to make a significant impact for the Black Stars due to his limited gametime at the AFCON.“I think I could have made a difference if I had played more but that’s the coach’s decision,” Gyan addedGyan was particularly peeved by being left on the bench for the Black Stars’ match with Guinea-Bissau even when the Stars were 2-0 up.When Gyan was asked whether he believes Kwesi Appiah should remain as coach, he responded that the decision was not in his hands.“Those who employed me are the ones who’ll have to make that decision. They see the facts, they see what’s going on. The fans will also have their opinions but they will make the decision. Kwesi Appiah is a human being and he makes mistakes.”He, however, stated that he was still willing to play for the Black Stars under “any coach”, including Appiah, should he be called into the team.“Maybe he’s changed his decision. If I’m called, I’m available for the Black Stars”

Premier League clubs have voted to change the summer transfer window to bring it in line with the rest of Europe. For the past two seasons, the window in England has closed the day before the top-flight campaign began. In a statement, the Premier League said the deadline has been changed to the “traditional point at the end of August/early September”.The 2020 closing date will be 1 September at 1600GMTThe vote was taken at a Premier League shareholders’ meeting in London on Thursday. The transfer window was moved to the start of August in England following complaints from clubs and managers that keeping it open after the start of the season was disruptive. It was hoped major leagues across Europe would also bring their own windows forward. However, that did not happen and a number of clubs found themselves in the uncomfortable position of knowing their players were in demand across the continent but unable to bring in replacements for anyone they wanted to sell.Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has previously voiced support for bringing the closure of the summer transfer window back in line with the rest of Europe.“I don’t care when it closes, but it must close at the same time,” he said in September. “They spoke about finishing it before the season starts. Good idea, but only England did it. That makes no sense. It was a good idea but it didn’t work out.” Source: BBC
AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to FacebookFacebookShare to TwitterTwitterShare to MoreAddThisIt was an emotional, shocking, and confusing day inside of the Presque Isle County Courthouse as Brenton Lee Walker was sentenced for murdering 42 year, Heather Young of Marshall.Walker with a smile on his face told the court, and Young’s family that he wasn’t sorry for his actions, but instead he felt great about killing Young.“I’m by no means sorry for what I did. I learned a lot about myself, something i tried to get others to try to figure out and they chose not to. Now when I was given the opportunity to follow through that I’ve known for a long time that I’m capable of doing, it felt great. I feel vindicated because of it; I’ve never felt better in my life. The fact that this happened to this particular individual is because number one she reminded me a lot of my ex–wife and other I’ve been with. A liar, a dope fiend, and a whore, so yes I’m not sorry, I have nothing to be sorry about,” Walker said leaving the entire courtroom in shock. After Walker’s remarks it was time to hear from Young’s family. The victim’s mother spoke first revealing that she was now on medication for the loss and grief of her daughter.“I have to see a physiologist, or something like that. I have to go to a grief group as well.I’m on medication for dealing with losing my daughter to your cold–hearted senseless murderous act. I have nightmares about her dying. How she suffered until her death and how you killed her and what she probably felt in all that was coming right up to the moment of her death,” Gail Walker, Young’s mother said.“You know he says he’s happy now. I would be happy to take him out, if you would let me, and I hope wherever he goes you know they might do that for me,” Young’s ex-husband, Jeff Cunningham said.Young’s father was next pleading with the state to bring back the death penalty.“He stands here with a smirk on his face, that is not right. They need to bring the death penalty back to the state of Michigan. I’m going to try somewhere and somehow to get someone to help me for my daughter and other victims that are out there…this has to stop,” David Dentler, said with emotion.Things turned up a notch when Young’s daughter decided to make a statement.“Please do something. Get rid of this man. My mother was never a whore,” Loree Cunningham yelled to Walker.Walker’s remarks even stunned the judge. Walker was sentenced to 2 years for count 2 of possession of a firearm. He was then sentenced to 45 years to 70 years for count 6 of consecutive 2nd degree murder. The 55-year-old confessed to killing Young, shooting her then disposing the body by burning her in a fire pit. It was revealed in Monday’s court that Walker shot Young in the leg and then was provoked to shoot Young a second time after Young maced him back in August of 2016 in Millersburg.
