The count first began several years ago after the Ministry of Forests, Lands, and Natural Resource Operations received complaints from local farmers and ranchers about wildlife communities causing agricultural crop damage. The Ministry wanted to change hunting regulations for certain wildlife populations, but first had to collect information on specific species population densities. The region has been sectioned into 25 square kilometre survey blocks in the areas of FortSt. John, Chetwynd, Dawson Creek, Tumbler Ridge and Hudson’s Hope to help keep an accurate count of wildlife in the Peace Region. Volunteers record any wildlife they see, including predators and unhealthy or diseased animals. The main focus is on ungulates, as well as sharp-tailed grouse. Volunteers are asked to sign up for one of the two days by contacting FrontCounter B.C. in Fort St. John at 250 787-3415 or Julie Kline at the Ministry of Forests, Lands, and Natural Resource Operations at 250-787-3294 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.- Advertisement –
6 Blackburn Rovers in the 1993/94 season – Blackburn finished the 22-team season on 84 points, but ended up losing to Manchester United. Chelsea and Liverpool in the 2013/14 season – Chelsea and Liverpool again missed out on the title in 2013/14, despite winning more than 80 points. The Blues finished on 82, and Liverpool on 84, but City took the title with 86 points. 6 6 Manchester United in the 2009/10 season – United finished one point behind winners Chelsea, ending the season on 86 points. Chelsea and Arsenal in 2007/08 – Chelsea and Arsenal both ended up with more than 80 points, but lost out to Man United, who ended the campaign with 87 points. 6 Chelsea and Liverpool in the 2008/09 season – Both Chelsea and Liverpool missed out on winning the title in the 2008/09 season, ending with 83 and 86 points respectively, however Man United first on 90 points. Leicester are on course to win the Premier League trophy, but it looks as if they will do so with a low points total.Whilst they can still finish on 87 points, an average total for a title winning side, that would require the Foxes to win all their remaining games. If they retain their current points per game total for the rest of the season, they will pick up another 17 points, ending with 80.Manchester United were the last team to finish on 80, in their 2010/11 triumph, and before that the Red Devils completed the same feat in the 2000/01 campaign. It was also United who won the title with the lowest ever points total, having secured the 1996/97 trophy with just 75 points.Leicester could win the league with a points tally lower than some runners-up, and even some third placed teams. In the 2011/12 season, United ended the campaign with 89 points, but they lost out on the title to rivals Manchester City due to goal difference. This is currently the highest total to not win the league, and Leicester cannot reach that figure even if they win all their games.Click the arrow above to find out which other teams missed out on the league, despite winning more points that Leicester’s expected total. 6 6 Leicester are on course to win the Premier League with 80 points. 22 February 2005South Africa and Angola have signed four agreements aimed at strengthening economic and social co-operation between the two countries. The agreements, signed by the ministers of both countries in Cape Town last week, formed part of a visit to SA by Angolan Prime Minister Fernando De Piedade Dias Dos Santos. The visit by Dos Santos and his delegation followed Deputy President Jacob Zuma’s visit to Angola in August 2004.Social Development Minister Zola Skweyiya and Angola’s Social Assistance and Reintegration Minister Joao Baptista Kussuma signed an agreement on co-operation in the fields of social protection and re-integration.Trade and Industry Minister Mandisi Mpahlwa and Angolan Transport Minister Andre Luis Brandao signed an agreement on reciprocal promotion and protection of investments.Defence Minister Mosiuoa Lekota and his Angolan counterpart, Kundy Pahyama, signed a protocol on defence cooperation, while Minerals and Energy Minister Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka and Angolan Energy and Water Minister Jose M Botelho de Vasconcelos signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of electricity.Zuma and Dos Santos discussed a wide range of issues during their meetings, including reconstruction programmes in Angola, regional and continental peacekeeping efforts; and conflict prevention, management and resolution in Africa.Angola has an immense natural resource base in the form of oil, gas, diamonds and other minerals. The country, that has endured more than its fair share of civil wars, has the potential for significant exports of coffee and other agricultural products, as well as fertile highlands with a favourable climate and plenty of water.Various SA companies and agencies, including Eskom, the Gauteng Economic Development Agency, Protea Hotels and Absa Bank, have visited Angola recently to explore the possibilities of investing there. In addition, a number of South African churches and NGOs are contributing towards rebuilding Angola after decades of protracted civil war.Source: BuaNews
Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… Tags:#Real-Time Web#web jolie odell How do you create filters for the real-time web? From spam filtration to relevant discovery, the “filter geeks” at the Real-Time Web Summit today are all about creating simple, rich user experiences.Hashtags for Twitter are a great start, but how are the startups moving and shaking the real-time web planning on giving users filters to control their streams in ways that make the ever-increasing volumes of information more usable? From Thing Labs and Twingly to PostRank and SocialText, read on for the problems these companies and their users have encountered and how they plan to solve information overload through clever curation and cooperation. The session was led by Twingly CEO Martin Kallstrom, who opened with a discussion about hashtags. But one of the best things about both the unconference format and the intellectual cachet of Silicon Valley is illustrated by what happened next.Thing Labs‘ CEO, Jason Shellen, interrupted to insist that we broaden the discussion to include the entire real-time web and all possible examples of filtration systems, not just Twitter and not just hashtags. From there, the conversation exploded into an executive-level goulash of how to make the real-time web useful. The overall poverty of the user experience was generally deplored. “We hear from our users about what they want,” said Shellen. “People say, ‘Just show me the important stuff.’” The current state of real-time UXes allows for a lot of opportunity – the opportunity to make this iteration of the Internet simple for new users as well as appropriately complex for powerusers, unlike what we’ve all seen with RSS, which remains an underused geekcore feature. The spectrum of data and metadata was brought up several times, as well. Keywords (e.g., hashtags) are a good start, but richer metadata would allow for filtration by sentiment or location. For example, a user might want to see blog posts about Obama’s winning the Nobel Peace prize from right-leaning sources only. Or I might want to see pictures posted by people within 100 feet of me while I’m at the Real-Time Web Summit. Overall, having the author, location, time, sentiment, and keywords automatically applied to user-generated data could lead to much richer streams with built-in filtering opportunities, both filtering content out as well as discovering new content and sources.Another major point of emphasis for this session was the fact that a critical mass of users generally leads to the best filtering: Large datasets create very specifically defined problems and finely tuned filtration. Unfortunately, the startups involved in the real-time web often have smaller user bases than would be desired; there is simply not enough data generated by the users of the individual services. But what if all that user data was combined somehow?“Right now,” said Kallstrom, “people doing startups trying to combat information overload are mostly focused on finding high-quality signals. It’s a very hard problem. The highest quality for the end user is achieved by moving from competing on gathering the signals to creating a great user experience through more open data.”One participant suggested publishing user activity to open-source the problem of how to filter real-time data. Many other participants agreed that the problem requires collaboration, data portability, and open standards between all the companies in the room and beyond. Such collaboration would make all real-time products better and lead to better experiences for users. Then again, better filtration could be a real-time holy grail, a solution worth selling. And when the question of money comes up, will these startups be willing to sacrifice a theoretical goldmine to collaborate on a user-friendly solution? One thing our local Green Building Council really does right is the annual green home tour. We get great turnout from the public, and it gives the more experienced green builders a chance to open their homes to the novice green builders and share what’s working and how we choose features that make sense for our region. Here are a few of the elements that make our tour such a success. We have a really good tour guidebook with descriptions of the houses and an accurate map of the homes, so participants can plot out itineraries that makes sense for them. We get the guides out on the newsstands in local meeting places and on the Internet a couple of weeks before the tour. Builders link to their page in the online tour book and e-mail it out to friends, prospects, and past customers. Tour goers show up with the books or printouts from the website marked up with the houses they most want to see and questions they want to ask at each house. We don’t charge a fee for the tour. We charge our builders a reasonable fee to participate and sell ads in the tour guide. This way we make it possible for people to stop by only one or two houses as it works into their weekend plans. We also hand out lots of directional street signs and put out very large job-site signs listing the tour hours and the builder’s name and contact info, so we bring in the neighbors and others who may not have heard about the tour from our ad campaign. We work hard to have a good mix of building types. Some people are really offended by light-green or high-priced green-certified homes, some want to see “mainstream green”, some want to see the state-of-the-art energy and water conservation features, some want to see a lot of recycled materials and creative reuse. We always work hard with Habitat for Humanity and the local affordable housing folks to make sure that they have the support they need to get their homes Energy Star approved and Green Certified and to make sure they can show off their efforts on the tour. People have the impression that green homes are a lot more expensive and that they may look or even smell funny. The best way to counter this impression is to show them green in all sizes and prices. We hold a press conference on the Monday before the tour. The builders come to pick up their tour guides and directional signs and to get a briefing on the details that we all need to know to make the tour work. On the first morning of the tour, we’ll have a two-hour event in a central location with educational panels and booths for our tour-book advertisers and sponsors. The green tour is such a strong motivator to be part of our HBA’s green-building council that builders who enroll a house in our program but fail to follow through on certification within a set time from pulling a CO can be banned from participating in the tour.
