In Italy, the economy is showing signs of the business-bashing policies of the ruling coalition government, having slipped into technical recession the past two quarters. While the dot.it sector turned in an impressive performance in 2018, GGR breaking through the €1.5bn barrier having hit the €1bn landmark just two years previous, it will also have to contend with the small matter of all forms of advertising coming to an end this July.In Poland, government concerns over the proliferation of illegal gaming machines are shaping the policy response to gambling more broadly, and we are, according to report author Scott Longley, seeing “the controlling instinct of the ruling right-wing Law and Justice party permeate into the online world”.With non-monopoly operators only allowed to offer sports betting taxed at an unsustainable rate of 12% of turnover, national lottery monopoly Totalizator Sportowy launched its Playtech-powered casino offering totalcasino.pl in December. With this unlikely to capture any significant share of the dot.com gaming market, logic would suggest a subsequent rethink of this policy by the government but no one there is “holding their breath”, according to Longley.A far more positive outlook is found in Denmark however, where recent growth trends continued into the third quarter and the Danish Gambling Authority has been focusing its efforts on combatting the remaining black market and maintaining the high degree of channelisation to dot.dk brands. We hope you enjoy this latest edition of the Market Monitor and don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any comments or suggestions.Click on the e-reader below to view the full Market Monitor. 21st February 2019 | By Stephen Carter Tags: Card Rooms and Poker Online Gambling Slot Machines iGB Market Monitor: February 2019

The deal came before SciPlay was spun off from Scientific Games last year.“Adding a new genre of evergreen casual games and an incredibly talented team to our portfolio immediately expands our market beyond social casino apps, and enables us to leverage our unique technology and strategies to drive player engagement and grow revenue,” SciPlay chief executive Josh Wilson explained.“We believe that with our support and expertise in user acquisition, analytics and live ops, we will be able to drive new growth behind the Come2Play titles.”Come2Play chief executive Barzilay added: “Our studio was founded on our passion to make games that really connect with our players, and we are thrilled to be joining SciPlay to take our games to the next level.“By leveraging the expertise and support from the wider SciPlay team, we will amplify the reach of our games, including our ground-breaking Solitaire game, Solitaire Pets Adventure.”The deal comes amid growing interest in casual games from studios traditionally focused on other social genres. Masks and temperature checks will also be required for guests and staff.“The reopening of NagaWorld is a cautious approach and hence the guidelines issued by the MOH must be implemented,” NagaCorp said.If the NagaWorld reopening is successful, more reopenings are expected to follow.Meanwhile, Kangwon Land’s casino in South Korea reopened last week (1 July) after being closed since 23 February. This follows a temporary “rehearsal” opening on 27 May, which the operator said helped it identify and deal with shortcomings in its reopening plan. In addition, Kangwon land will sterilise casino chips and will place notices around its properties to remind customers to respect social distancing requirements. The operator said it installed screens at gaming tables and between gaming machines. It also said it is “reviewing ways to minimize contact between employees”.Kangwon Land added that its management team is making daily inspections of its reopening plans to ensure they are effective. 7th July 2020 | By Daniel O’Boyle Subscribe to the iGaming newsletter Email Address Casino & games AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to LinkedInLinkedInShare to FacebookFacebookShare to TwitterTwitter Regions: Asia Cambodia South Korea Casinos reopen in Cambodia and South Korea Casinos in South Korea and Cambodia have reopened, as much of Asia eases out of lockdowns caused by the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

Industry standards body the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has written to the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer to express its “utter dismay” at the decision to delay the reopening of English casinos by at least two weeks.Earlier today (31 July) Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that casinos, which had been due to reopen from 1 August, would not reopen until 15 August at the earliest. The properties closed on 20 March as the UK went into lockdown amid the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, and it was not until 17 July that the government set a date for casino reopenings. Other gambling venues such as betting shops (from 15 June) and bingo halls (from 4 July) have already been allowed to open their doors to customers. However, with stricter lockdown measures being reintroduced in the north of England, Johnson said it was necessary to “squeeze the brake pedal” on easing lockdown in other parts of the country further. This has been greeted with horror by the BGC, which had lobbied the government to either reopen, or at least set out a timescale for casinos to reopen. In a letter to the UK finance minister, Chancellor Rishi Sunak, BGC chief executive Michael Dugher (pictured) described the U-turn as “highly illogical, inconsistent and deeply damaging to those businesses and thousands of staff they employ.”Dugher said the government’s strategy for dealing with Covid-19 appeared to be “in disarray”.“We were told that the strategy was to move to regional and local lockdowns, yet the government’s announcement today forces all casinos to remain closed,” he wrote.“It is also the case that the new restrictions are supposed to be focused on households not mixing – not on closing businesses.”He cited government advice stating that households were permitted to avail themselves of hospitality options such as bars and pubs.Dugher’s letter also took exception to Johnson’s assertion that businesses such as casinos were higher risk, something he said was “bizarre and quite wrong”. The BGC pointed out that casino operators had invested heavily in making their properties Covid-secure, installing perspex screens, sanitisation equipment and employing track and trace systems to protect patrons. The industry had also coordinated with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and Public Health England to ensure that all venues were ready to reopen from 1 August.
