Photo Clive WassonRelay for Life Donegal’s successful summer event brought together another huge sum to fund vital research and services of the Irish Cancer Society. Money raised is spent locally, including a clinical research programme at Letterkenny University Hospital. The event was attended by the Relay for Life Donegal Committee, volunteers, sponsors and representatives from the health sector. Photo Clive WassonDr Isabella Bray, Research Manager with the Irish Cancer Society, outlined the details of the €100,000 investment made at LUH by past Relay for Life Donegal events. Photo Clive WassonAdvanced Nurse Practitioner Dr. Janice Richmond and Oncology Research Nurse Mary Grace Kelly were present to share details of the upcoming study. Photo Clive WassonDr. Richmond said 120 people will take part in the study, who will wear a FitBit for six months to monitor their activities and health. A skilled team of a made up of a dietician, a physiotherapist and a psychologist will monitor the participants. Researchers in Galway will carry out the data collection and analysis.  Dr. Richmond said it is hoped the programme, if successful, can be implemented in clinical practices in the future.
