Score one for ticket buyers across the country, as the United States Congress has just passed a new law into legislation banning the use of ticket bots. With the State of New York having just passed a similar bill, this is a major win for the thousands of ticket buyers that fall victim to the shady practice on a yearly basis. The new bill is awaiting a signature from President Obama, which he is expected to sign.New York Governor Signs Law Making It A Crime For Scalpers To Use Ticket Bot SoftwareWith literally hundreds of thousands of tickets being scooped up by ticket brokers, to then be resold for many times double or triple the price on a third party site (StubHub, VividSeats, and more), this news is a major blow to an industry that thrives on screwing potential ticket purchasers from buying face value tickets. According to the bill, the use of the ticket bot software is deemed an “unfair and deceptive practice” under the Federal Trade and Commission Act.Republican Senator Jerry Moran of Kansas, who sponsored the bill, explained the new law would “level the playing field” for average fans attempting to buy tickets. He went on to say “The need to end this growing practice is reflected in the bill’s widespread support.” We wonder what concert tickets he got screwed on?Regardless, this ticket bot practice had to be put to an end. If the choice of paying $200 to a broker site for a $50 ticket is the only way to witness your favorite music act, sports team, or musical, isn’t a crime, then what is?[via Associated Press]

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said the chief minister of a state should be trusted to decide what is in the interest of his state, otherwise it was better to “dispense” the state governments and rule from the Centre directly. He, however, said that that the decision to release separatist leader Masrat Alam was J&K Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s ploy to ensure that the discourse was about anything but the BJP-PDP alliance. “God knows I hold no brief for Mufti Sayeed but a CM has to be trusted to decide what is & isn’t in the interest of his/her state.
Cannabis or marijuana use increases neural noise in the brain, leading to a severe mental disorder in which thought and emotions are so impaired that contact is lost with external reality, says an Indian-origin researcher. The team from Yale University found that a primary active constituent of cannabis induces transient psychosis-like effects in healthy participants similar to those observed in schizophrenia.“At doses roughly equivalent to half or a single joint, the compound called ‘?9-THC’ produced psychosis-like effects and increased neural noise in humans,” explained senior author Dr Deepak Cyril D’Souza, professor of psychiatry. Also Read – ‘Playing Jojo was emotionally exhausting’The findings suggest that increased neural noise may play a role in the psychosis-like effects of cannabis. The investigators studied the effects of “?9-THC” on electrical brain activity in 24 human subjects who participated in a three-day study. If confirmed, the link between neural noise and psychosis could shed light on the biology of some of the symptoms associated with schizophrenia.“This interesting study suggests a commonality between the effects on the brain of the major active ingredient in marijuana and symptoms of schizophrenia,” stated Dr John Krystal, editor of the journal Biological Psychiatry that published the paper.
